Literary Therapy: Joy, Grief, Healing, and Recovery is an interactive four-part experience developed for the Dominican Writers Association that harnesses the cathartic power of writing and vulnerability to center joy, foster connection, and cultivate tools and strategies to cope and thrive during this raggedy moment in history.

This four-part experience will offer our community:

  1. A custom immersive workbook that expands on group writing sessions with additional grounding and reflection activities, readings lists, and room for drawing and taking notes.
  2. Virtual community writing sessions that use mindfulness, creative writing, and group discussions to explore mental health and cultivate tools for thriving.
  3. A wrap-up with mindfulness tools, joy-flavored stories, recipe ideas, wellness resources, and more.

We’ll use mindfulness activities, creative writing, and group discussion in a safe + supportive community to navigating emotions connected to life amidst global transition and uncertainty.

FACILITATOR INFO: Alexander Hardy is a grits-powered Halfro-Panamanian writer, mental health advocate, home cook, facilitator, and lupus survivor. He battles spiritual ashiness as CoFounder and Creative Director of GetSomeJoy, a creative wellness agency that supports organizations and communities with joy-infused training, experiences, and resources.

As an essayist and copywriter, Alexander has written for outlets such as Ebony,, Food & Wine, The Root, Saint Heron, Eater, and Very Smart Brothas. He is an Adult, Youth, and Spanish Mental Health First Aid instructor, and has connected and written about feelings with over 500 people from 20 countries over eight weeks in GetSomeJoy’s flagship Literary Therapy Writing Program.

He shares recipes, joy-flavored stories, and wellness tools on weekdays via GetSomeJoy’s Daily Breakfast Situation at And he’ll probably ask what or if you ate today.
