Aligned with Dominican Writer's mission to elevate local narratives and stories, the monthly cuenticos helps amplify Dominican voices.
Submissions will be featured on the DWA writer’s page for March, Women’s History Month.
Open to emerging & professional writers of ages 12 and up.
What we are looking for:
For consideration, the piece must be first-person essays on the topic of Dominican Matriarchs. Dominican societal norms are male dominant, the home is ruled by the matriarch. Relate stories of the women in your family and how they carry the weight of, protecting, guiding, educating, etc. Fighting/Embracing expectations of that role. What can we take from their example and what they leave behind.
We accept:
Creative non-Fiction (memoir, personal narrative, essay) 1500-2000 words max, in Times New Roman, Font size 12
Can submit in either English, Spanish, or Spanglish
Each submission should be a single file attachment in .doc or Docx.
All submissions must be titled: (firstname_lastname_genre) before uploading.
The first page of your submission should include your full name, phone number, email address, and social media handles.
Of Importance to note:
We do not accept work that has been previously published online or otherwise.
DWA acquires exclusive rights to publish on the website and requests acknowledgment in subsequent publications.
Writers will receive monetary compensation of $30.
Writers must reside within the United States. Unfortunately, we are not prepared to pay you if you reside outside of the country.

Alineado con la misión de Dominican Writer de elevar las narrativas e historias locales, los #cuenticos mensuales ayudan a amplificar las voces dominicanas.
Para consideración, entragas deben ser un ensayo en primera persona sobre el tema de las matriarcas dominicanas. Las normas sociales dominicanas son predominantemente masculinas, el hogar está gobernado por la matriarca. Cuenta historias de las mujeres de tu familia y cómo llevan el peso de, proteger, guiar, educar, etc. Luchar/Aceptar las expectativas de ese papel. ¿Qué podemos tomar de su ejemplo y lo que dejan atrás?
Aceptamos:
No ficción creativa (memorias, narrativa personal, ensayo) 1500-2000 palabras como máximo, en Times New Roman, tamaño de letra 12
Puede enviar en inglés, español o spanglish.
Cada envío debe ser un solo archivo adjunto en formato .doc o Docx.
Todos los envíos deben tener el título: (nombre_apellido_género) antes de subirlos.
La primera página de su envío debe incluir su nombre completo, número de teléfono, dirección de correo electrónico y identificadores de redes sociales.
De importancia a tener en cuenta:
No aceptamos trabajos que hayan sido publicados previamente en línea o de otra manera.
DWA adquiere derechos exclusivos para publicar en el sitio web y solicita reconocimiento en publicaciones posteriores.
Los escritores aceptados recibirán una compensación de $30 USD.
Los escritores deben vivir dentro de los estados unidos. Desafortunadamente no estamos preparados para pagarles si residen fuera del pais.
