Description:
The Washington Heights Memoir Project aims to provide a platform to immortalize the narratives of a community that is slowly losing its longstanding Dominican inhabitants due to gentrification.
DEADLINE: December 31st, 2019
The call for submissions is for those who are unable to attend the workshops because they live outside of New York or have other inconveniences.
The WHMP will include current and past Dominican residents of Washington Heights neighborhoods including youth with similar artistic pursuits in order to create an archive of our experiences living and or working in Washington Heights/Inwood area. Submissions will be included in an anthology to be published in 2020.
Requirements:
Participants will be required to have resided in the neighborhood at least 2 years in order to contribute.Participants will receive instructions from the workshop facilitator to guide them in writing their stories, polish their work & see it through the publishing stage in the form of an anthology.
Submission Guidelines:
Can submit in either English, Spanish, or Spanglish
Creative Nonfiction (1000 words minimum)
Poetry (may submit up to three pieces for consideration)
MUST Include full name, phone number, mailing address and social media handles with your submission. We do not accept work that has been previously published online or otherwise.

La convocatoria de propuestas es para aquellos que no pueden asistir a los talleres porque viven fuera de Nueva York o tienen otros inconvenientes. El WHMP incluirá a los residentes dominicanos actuales y pasados de los vecindarios de Washington Heights/Inwood, incluidos los jóvenes con actividades artísticas similares, a fin de crear un archivo de nuestras experiencias viviendo y trabajando en el área de Washington Heights / Inwood.
